When making a papercraft model, I always try to break down the complex shape of the complete model into separate, easier to build pieces.
Now models of "older" video games like
Final Fantasy VII are often already divided up into
separate bodyparts, but of course the original game models were never made to be unfolded into a papercraft model!
If they would be left as they were, many parts would become very difficult to build out of paper, or wouldn't even fit together properly because they
overlap/intersect...
So even though "older" 3D video game models look much simpler than "newer" 3D video game models, they often need just as much work
re-modeling them before they can be unfolded... ;o)
