free papercraft Tomb Raider vignette WIP: a bit of context

An important part of my papercraft Tomb Raider 'vignettes' are the stands that show which particular episode of Lara's adventures the vignette is from.

In this case I made part of the security hallway from the "Escape with the iris" episode from Tomb Raider Chronicles. Not an exact copy of course, because I want it to have the same size of my other vignettes to match the series!

So I will make a smaller security desk that will show Lara's X-ray on a display as she passes through; and although she didnt even bring her Dual Pistols with her for the VCI portion of Tomb Raider Chronicles, I think it will be okay if she takes them with her here since the paper version probably won't set off any alarms (I think...?)

I think the computer screen will look best when printed on a printable transparant sheet, making it transparant in the final papercraft (partial plasticcraft I guess? 😜) to show skeleton Lara through the screen.

But I'm getting (far) ahead of myself, since I just started the 3D part of making this new papercraft!  😉

Stay tuned!

  1. I’d be down to see what a transparent plastic craft of Lara’s X-Ray from the Escape with the Iris episode. That would look pretty cool I bet and would be a sweet challenge.

    1. The only transparant part I used in the vignette is for the computer screen. You can see the result here: https://ninjatoes.com/2023/06/03/tomb-raider-chronicles-x-ray-lara-vignette/

I thought about making Lara out of transparancies, but I found that using transparancies makes getting a good result very frustrating, which is not very fun of course... :op

The biggest transparant pieces I made so far are the visors for some of my LEGO astronauts: https://ninjatoes.com/2011/10/08/lego-blacktron-ii-astronaut/ and I think to do a better job I'd need special glues to glue the transparancies (because the plastic will be under tension all the time and you can't pre-shape plastic like you can paper to release that tension) and *a lot* of extra time to get clean results (because you can't hide the 'mess' on the 'backside' if you use transparant sheets) and to be honest that isn't really fun for me... So I don't think I'd like to do a whole papercraft out of plastic transparancies to be honest... ;o)
