While I try to make my own papercrafts as easy as possible to build for everyone (I'm trying to do so on my new secret project as well ;o) I do enjoy the skill involved in building really detailed models.

Like this Mitsubishi FTO made by Teiji Murakami. The files on his own website are in LZH-archive format, which you can open with WinRar or 7-Zip.

"The coolest thing ever!"

Wow.

It always brings a smile to my face when people tell me they had fun building one of my models, sometimes a whole lot of fun!

I was reading through a comment left on my own YouTube channel by AluCaRDoptical2, and there was a link to another user, which had some amazing videos of my adult Link model from Super Smash Bros. Melee:

He did a really great job building it, but what I love most about the videos is his enthusiasm! He seems to really enjoy how challenging my SSB:M Link is, with all the little parts and details! It's hard not to get excited about it yourself as well!

Motivational posters (+secret project clue!)

A while ago, I started making motivational posters for when I released a new model. When I do a new papercraft project, I really get in the mood, scouring the web for any interesting info (even though 99% isn't really helpful in making the model ;o) and my mind starts thinking in all kinds of lame one liners.

Looking at my "motivational" posters won't really motivate you to do anything though, mine are basically just funny images with a lame catchphrase. I just liked the style. ;o)

I get a lot of reactions on them (apparantly some people like my lame sense of humor) so I made a special DeviantArt gallery where you can view them all.

Concerning my super-secret papercraft project, I have started re-building the 3D model so I can later unfold it the way I want to.

Even though I can't show you of course (else it wouldn't be much of a secret anymore) there is now a clue to what it might be somewhere on my blog... If you find and and would like to take a guess what my secret project is, you can do so by leaving a comment here. Good luck and have fun! ;o)

New papercraft project

I've decided on my next project, it's one of the models that has been on my "to do"-list forever. Recently, everybody started talking about it and my mind started working out all kinds of neat ideas that I could do on this one.

But I'm not sure if I should tell you guys what it is, or if I should keep a "WIP" on my blog this time.

The reason is, that I know at least one other person is working on the same subject, and I don't want that person to get bummed and all disappointed and stop working on it just because someone else is doing the same model. I don't mind making paper models that have already been done before, and this way it won't turn into a competition and you guys may get two models in the end! ;o)

I might add "secret clues" on my blog from time to time so that very observant readers may just figure out what the subject is. But don't worry, there isn't one right now (or is there..?)

SimCity 3000 Paper Buildings

Paper Buildings is a website with (surprisingly) paper buildings to download, print and build.

There are some miscellaneous houses and other buildings, but I really like Lukas' Dragon Ball Z "Kame house" and my favourites are the SimCity 3000 series designed by Erik, with the Mullet Hi-Rise, Lighthouse, Heidi, Investigator's Office, People's Plaza and Hampton's Apartments.

It doesn't seem very active anymore unfortunately, but the models that are already there are fun to build:

BazookaJo's papercraft models

This Looney Toons Marvin the Martian papercraft is just one of the four models that BazookaJo created, but it's my personal favourite.

The other three are several pieces of (classic) Battlestar Galactica Cylon armour, Ren Hoek from Ren and Stimpy and a Hellboy bust.

Halo Master Chief, Ganon, and more!

I think Mike McDermott (billybob884) is still most famous for his Halo Master Chief papercraft model, but he made many more since then: like the squirrel with an attitude Conker from Conker's Bad Fur Day, Dragon Ball Z's Majin Buu and Mr. Hercule Satan and recently Ganon in his monster pig form from Ocarina of Time.

Thunderbirds are go!

After finishing my Fierce Deity Link project yesterday, I'm thinking hard on what my next project will be. But dont worry, it's not that I don't have any ideas. Quite the opposite in fact...

But today I'm relaxing a bit, and I'm just sharing one of my old finds with you, namely a couple of great Thunderbirds models by another designer: Ijoy made Thunderbirds 2, 3 and 4 and also the "Mole" and recovery vehicle to go into Thunderbird 2's Pod!

Takahiro Kojima has another website which has Thunderbirds 1 and 3 (amongst others - but which is dead now unfortunately 😟) which might be a little easier to build, because the ones on Ijoy's site are quite small and very detailed, but they look absolutely awesome when assembled!

Fierce Deity Link papercraft finished

I'm cutting it close, but I did manage to finish my Fierce Deity Link papercraft model this weekend!

It was a fun project, and I'm happy with the results. The double helix sword is huge, and I needed to adjust the arms and hands a bit to make sure Oni Link wouldn't fall over anymore. I only built the arms just a tiny bit crooked, but with a sword this big, it can make all the difference.

The video you see here is the result of my playing with the video mode on the Kodak Easyshare camera I bought recently, and I made myself a YouTube channel where I hope to share many more videos featuring my papercraft models!

Tomowo's Stormtrooper helmet

I'm working hard on finishing the test build for my Fierce Deity Link model so I can hopefully release it later this weekend. In the meantime, here's another great model by a
different designer to keep you busy until I'm finished: a Stormtrooper helmet.

It's a great design, made in Pepakura Designer and released as such, which means you'll need the free Pepakura Viewer to open the file and print the parts.

Navi's Banjo and Kazooie relaxing in a comfy chair

I'm planning on test building Fierce Deity Link's torso tonight so that hopefully, I might be able to do the finishing touches on it to release the model this weekend.

But in the meantime, I want to point out a new paper model made by Navi for the Banjo-Kazooie contest of the Nintendo Papercrafts forum (which will end September 21st, sorry... ;o)

She made a "regular" Banjo and Kazooie model earlier, but she did another one, with them relaxing in a comfy chair and Banjo playing Mario on his Game Boy. A must have for Rare fans! (and who isn't one?)

Yamaha papercraft tutorial

I could bore you guys with another picture of my Fierce Deity Link test build, but since all's going well (I'm building the head, hair and cap today) it probably wouldn't be very interesting to you people. ;o)

So I thought I'd tell you about the Yamaha website instead. Besides motorbikes, Yamaha also makes paper models. Of motorbikes (what a surprise...) but also of "the (rare) animals of the world".

But what's more, they also included a papercraft tutorial with small video clips demonstrating basic papercraft techniques, like scoring and folding, curving (pre-shaping) and also some practical instructions on the difficult parts of their motorbike models. Have a look:

Papercraft test build déjà vu

Just a quick update on my Fierce Deity Link project. Just like with my Yuna project, I managed to start a test build, which coincidently, also turned out to be the legs.

I don't know why actually, it's not really necessary to start with the legs. I think I like to start with something simple (the legs usually are) and end with something difficult (the head+hair usually is) so that you know it's the last thing you need to do before you can admire your work.

If the rest of the model comes together as nicely as the legs, then I might be able to finish next weekend again, although it also depends on what other things might come in between of course. ;o)

Fierce Deity Link Pepakura

I finished re-making the head/hair/hands/hat, so Fierce Deity Link is ready to go into Pepakura. It's probably not a big surprise, but I decided to go for the "young Link style" with 3D hands, hair and ears, because I think it suits this project best.

There's a reason why the sword wasn't textured in the last update; something probably went wrong, because the texture looked *very* wrong... So I just made my own, and I think it looks okay now.

Unfolding Fierce Deity Link probably won't take too long (don't worry about the red lines, that's just how I make my paper models). But I don't think I'll be able to finish test building, fixing mistakes and making the templates and instructions this weekend as well. So again, it might be another week, or maybe even two.

Fierce Deity Link papercraft WIP update

I managed to re-model the parts on the legs and arms of Fierce Deity Link that were merged inside eachother, so I have just the hands and the head and cap left to do.

The reason why I paused for a moment on these parts, is that I'm debating wether I should continue experimenting making my models easier to build like I did on my adult Link riding Epona, or that I should just make Fierce Deity Link in the same style as my young Link.

I'm leaning ever so slightly towards making it more in young Link style, even if it is just a little more difficult to make. But I'll make sure to make up my mind before the weekend, so I can work on it then. ;o)

New work in progress: Fierce Deity Link

Everybody knows Fierce Deity Link is Link x cool=cool^2. But I found his standard resting pose a bit boring, and the combat animation I captured was better, but I didn't care much for the very uncool pose his left arm was in...

I also wanted him to look like he was ready to strike down an enemy, so I combined the battle animation with his standard pose so that the double helix sword is pointing up, instead of down.

Like all models that aren't specifically designed for papercraft, it needs all of the standard fixing, but because of my "cool pose" idea, I also need to re-model the parts where the lower arms of the first model now connect to the upper arms of the second model.

But I need to re-model the upper arms anyway, because in any pose besides the standard one the arms are all... weird, and inside his body. Great for 5th generation videogames, not so great for paper models...

And I need to model an ass, because N64 Link doesn't have one.

400% T-Rex Trophy head

As you may have read in one of my previous posts (So... How big *is* a T-Rex skull??) my T-Rex Trophy model isn't quite scale 1:1. A paper enthustiast called Wildman has took it upon himself to try and achieve that goal of making a lifesized paper T-Rex head.

He hasn't quite reached that goal yet, but he did manage to make a 400% version. He enlarged the original parts, and added those in the blank spaces on the enlarged version, so you get two T-Rexes for the price of one!

He even mirrored the parts for the teeth so you can cut them out and glue them back-to-back, if you don't like to have the white backside showing (you can also do that with the original sized version of course).

He allowed me to share the files with you all, you can get them from his "hall of fame" listing on my website: T-Rex Trophy by Wildman

He is still going to try to make it even larger to share with a local school, and I hope he succeeds, because how awesome would it be to have a lifesized paper T-Rex head in one of the hallways at your school!? (answer: pretty awesome!!)
