As you all know, Flash support on the internet was finally completely discontinued on December 31, 2020. 😟
This meant tons of Flash games and other applications on tons of websites became pretty much unusable, like the cute Disney Pixar Finding Nemo papercraft toys I posted about in 2012: link
Although the alternative link to the Dan Dare website still works, the Flash application won't run in any webbrowser anymore:
There are still ways to get it to work offline though, although it requires a few steps (see the image at the top for a visual guide):
First you need to find the URL to the actual Flash application on the website so you can save it to your own computer:
Go to the Dan Dare website: link and press Ctrl+U to view the website's actual HTML source code (in Google Chrome at least; other webbrowsers should have a similar option).
Press Ctrl+F and search the source code for the mention of .swf (the file extension for a ShockWave Flash file).
It will find two instances, in this case the second one will be the link to the actual file; click it and save the .swf file to your computer.
Now go to https://www.bullrushsoft.com/online.html; it can convert the .swf file to a standalone executable .exe file that you can run offline on your computer.
Upload the .swf file you downloaded from the Dan Dare website, and after it's converted, use the small download button that appears at the bottom to download the .exe file to your computer.
Now annoyingly, because the developer of the online tool is unknown to my Antivirus software and to Windows Defender, both off them stopped me from running the .exe file at first.
Antivirus solution: for my Antivirus software, I made a special Folder with the .exe file and set my Antivirus software to exclude it from its scans.
ONLY do this if YOU trust the application too, and NEVER turn off your antivirus software completely!!
Windows Defender solution: you can click the "More info" link to see a "Run anyway" option" (ONLY do this if YOU trust the application!!)
TIP: "print" the paper toys as a PDF file, so you can always print them again whenever you want without having to go through all this again. 😇
Yes yes, the lunar New Year was more than a week ago; but such stylish papercrafts for the Year of the Ox deserve a mention! 🐂
You can download them in different colors, and what's more, Faltmanufaktur almost has a complete collection of stylish Zodiac animals now since they've been at it since 2012 with the Year of the Dragon; browse the older posts here to find them all:
February 12th marks the start of the Chinese New Year 2021! 🐂🎇🎆🎉
If you search around, you can probably find several Ox / Cow papercrafts that people created to celebrate. Of course, since the Chinese Zodiac is cyclical, you can each papercraft Zodiac animal every twelve years; but this specific papercraft can even be used every year:
Since a long time, people have performed the "Lion Dance" to scare off the New Year monster Nian to bring luck and prosperity and prevent bad things from happening in the new year. 🕺🕺🦁
The lion is always very colorful, so be sure to color the blank template in all kinds of bright colors!

I haven't found much time this week to work on releasing my own papercraft Advance Wars A-Air unit, but luckily in the meantime, there are lots of free papercraft half-timbered buildings as well...! 🏠😋
If you think the half-timbered building in the picture above looks old, that's because it is: it's from 1549, and shows a lot of interesting details about the historical development of the famous Swiss half-timbered building style!
The Bausubstanz magazine and Fachwerkerleben foundation teamed up this January to hold a little competition, giving away a papercraft of the half-timbered "Trotte" (🍇 wine press building) for people to build and send in there best picture!
So unfortunately, I'm a bit late to tell you about the competition (which ended January 31st, 2021), but as they say on the website: "Even when the competition is over, (paper)crafting is always fun!" 😃
But luckily, you can still download the papercraft and send in your pictures (with your home address to the email address mentioned on the Bausubstanz website, but I don't know if they will send a little thank you gift - especially if you live outside of Switzerland...?)
And if one papercraft half-timbered houses isn't enough, the Fachwerkerleben foundation itself also has some free papercrafts, of the Rebhäuschen and Girsbergerhaus! 😊 (and lots more for sale of course)
