free papercraft Perfect Dark Joanna Dark release!

Joanna Dark is a tricky papercraft (seeing how I tried to finish her in 2023...) so I decided to finally finish her. 😃 The large timegap in between made for some tricky parts I think!

Download + build your own free papercraft Joanna Dark from Perfect Dark on the N64:

Have fun building! (next time I hope making a regular papercraft won't take this long) 😉

Joanna Dark 64 papercraft WIP 5: release coming soon

Originally I had hoped I would have been able to finish Joanna Dark in 2023, and 2025 didn't... start off as intended I guess either... 😟 (2024 I don't seem to want to talk about either...)

It doesn't mean I stopped working on Joanna Dark though! Here's the last test build of this (tricky!) papercraft; the release will be very soon!

Stay tuned!

Joanna Dark 64 papercraft WIP 4: test build 1

Yay! I finally managed to do some actual papercrafting again! 😀

Even if it is just a quick and dirty early testbuild of little paper Joanna Dark 64 that I've been trying to work on off and on for months now with no real end in sight yet...

So although a lot of things on this testbuild ended up being too tricky to build for my liking (the hands for example, as always😋) and although I already worked on the original extracted game textures and 3D model a lot already, there are still a lot more things I want to change before getting to a final and releasable version that I can be happy with.

I'm still busy as ever since the last months with everyday life (ugh 😡) so I have no idea how long it will still take me, but it was fun to do some real papercrafting again. Like all good things, it's a process. And I will get there. Have fun and stay tuned! 👍

Joanna Dark 64 papercraft WIP 3 update

Work on Joanna Dark 64 is progressing - very slowly...

I edited the textures to make them fit on the 3D model the way I think Joanna looks in the original Perfect Dark game on the Nintendo 64. A lot of the textures still don't match perfectly when repositioned, and I still have a lot work to do on them in general. I also made them just a bit crisper since I have to work on them so much anyway...

I reduced the number of polygons like I always do when I make a game model into a papercraft (so I don't end up with a million tiny paper parts for a game character from an over 20 years old game 😱) but then I added some extra polygons again because just like Quakeguy, game Joanna only has stubby blocks for hands, so I remodelled those into basic 3D hands like other games from that era so paper Joanna will be able to actually hold her Falcon 2 pistol!

Long story short: it's taking me a lot of time (which I don't really have at the moment...) but I'll get there! 😉

Stay tuned!

Perfect Dark Joanna Dark papercraft WIP 2 : The Trouble with Textures

So obviously, the Busy Days are far from over, so work on Joanna Dark is progressing very slowly, but it is progressing a little bit! 😀

I'm finding myself having to spend a lot of time on the texturing though, because pretty much every texture on the extracted 3D model seems to have issues: the thing is though, that I can't really remember if that's just from the extraction process (link), having to use an emulation plugin, or whether is was like that on the Nintendo 64 console itself too...?

The textures themselves are quite small, but I'm used to that from games of this era of course. But take Joanna's belt for example: it doesn't show in the extracted game model at all, while the textures for it were extracted just fine!?

Like I said,I don't really remember if the belt was there in the game when playing it on the actual N64 console, but since the textures were extracted ,I'm just trying to put the extracted textures in what I think should be the right place.

But then another problem was that one half was colored like I expected it to be, while the other half was almost unrecognizably dark!? And they also seem to be very strangely aligned?

Pretty much every texturee has issues like this, so I'm basically using my best judgement to get a papercraft of a (properly) fully textured Joanna!

It's a lot of extra work while I already have little spare time for the foreseeable future unfortunately, but I think I'll be happier with the final papercraft with all the textures in (what I think is) the right place so I'll just persevere! 😉

Stay tuned!

Perfect Dark Joanna Dark papercraft WIP 1 : only the beginning

I had hoped to have finished Joanna Dark for my papercraft 3D shooter series in 2023 (since the Perfect Dark game is set in 2023) but thanks to some extremely busy months, as you can see I'm just starting on it with only a few days to go in 2023 (belated Merry Christmas by the way!)

I extracted her game model from the Nintendo 64 version using the same method as for Turok, but since making a papercraft takes me a lot longer than a few days, finishing it will just have to be one of my New Year resolutions for 2024 (along with all the other papercrafts on my ever growing to do-list!)

Stay tuned! 😀
