Happy Halloween 2020 - with these free papercraft Warcraft III Spiders!

So here it finally is, my Halloween 2020 papercraft!🎃
(Sorry to all arachnaphobiacs, but I hope it helps to realize that these spiders are just made from paper  🕸🕷 😉)

● Fangs

The base models are from the Warcraft III video game (the original Reign of Chaos one from 2002) but as usual I tweaked them a bit compared to the game models; like how the legs connect to the thorax (it is still pretty difficult to glue them on, but take your time and don't worry about it being messy! 😉) and adding fangs (because I felt it made them look scarier... 😁)

● Photo paper

The Warcraft III game has four different colors of spiders (I'll add a 3D model extraction tutorial for Warcraft III soon) and I added a blank version where you can easily see the fold lines (it's mostly for the legs, and after doing one you probably get the idea 😉).

Normally I use plain, 200 gsm paper to build my papercrafts, but this time I decided the colors and the spiders's exoskeletons might look extra nice if they would be a bit shiny - so I decide to print the parts on glossy HP Everyday Photo Paper Q5451A.

And the finished paper Spiders do look really nice I think, but I have to say it was so much more difficult! to glue with the Tesa All-purpose glue that I always use; The glossy finish makes everything more slippery with the glue, and it took much longer to get a good bond before I could let go of the parts... 😝

Happy Halloween and have fun building! 🎃🕷

Halloween spiderwebbing

🦇 Halloween is not really a traditional holiday in the Netherlands, but we do enjoy a fun, scary Halloween movie and more and more people just like the overall spooky atmosphere during these dark days. 🎃😊

So for some of the pictures of my 'special' Halloween papercraft this year (no, it's not the paper Jack-o'-lantern in the pictures 😉) I decided to get some typical Halloween decorations I always see in Halloween movies, including some of that stretchy spiderweb material.

It was my first time using it but it's really fun material! I only used like 1/4 to 1/3 of the 60 grams in the bag that I got and it stretched quite far; in fact I think it looks better the more you stretch it. 😊

It's a bit difficult to see against the white wall, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, especially the top bit; it was a bit difficult to use because I was only using a clothesline to attach it to and some tape to stick it to the floor, and I think it would look better against some bushes or fence or something outside, where you can attach and stretch it better.

If you want to see what my Halloween papercraft will be this year be sure to check back next week, for now I just wanted to share how much fun making a scary spiderweb for Halloween is. 🕸😉

First Tetra pre-papercraft 3D remodelling round done (for now ;o)

As you (hopefully 😉) can see, I did some more work remodelling Tetra's Phantom Hourglass game model! (well for now at least)

It doesn't look like I did a lot of work again compared to last week; the last part to remodel was bascially her (huge) head, and I didn't change much on the basic shape to be honest. Only her ears are changed a bit and the famous curl of hair on the back of her head, and I tried to make the textures fit a bit better and making them a bit crisper where I could.

The first remodelling round is actually pretty much done now: I gave Tetra a little bit more detail (just a *little* bit though 😉) and of course I tried to imagine how I would build her as a papercraft, because you have to make the 3D model accordingly (like how I can attach her huge head to her body...).

I think 3D Tetra so far is more or less ready for a first unfold and test build, so *maaaaybe* I'll start on that next weekend;

...although I will probably also be wanting to finish my Halloween model 🎃🦇 for this year by then (which I'm really enjoying so far! 😉)

Stay tuned!

Some more progress on papercraft Phantom Hourglass Tetra again! :o)

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I'm also working on a new Halloween papercraft to share this year again! 🎃😃

But I also promised to keep working on Tetra of course off and on whenever I can. 🙂 As you can see, I did a bit more work remodelling her, changing the pose and 'rounding her over' a bit more. 😉

There's still more work to do before I can start testing her as a papercraft, and the parts that I already remodelled will probably keep changing as long as I'm working on her, but I was happy to make a little bit of progress again. 🙂

Stay tuned!
