New papercraft model to be: Twilight Princess Puppet Zelda

People sometimes ask: "what's the use of making papercraft characters like from the Legend of Zelda? It's just making dolls or puppets?" *

Well... yes, basically. 😉 So why not make a Puppet Zelda?

Now that I have some more time to make papercrafts again, I want to take advantage of it, so I don't really wanna take a break after finishing Spinoza before starting on the third paper model since my "return".

I'll probably make Puppet Zelda more or less the same size as ZaL or Twilight Link, and more or less in the same style (it's been a while of course... 😉)

So that will require a lot of work on the 3D game model first, but as always we'll see how it goes! 😊

Tomb Raider 2 Home Sweet Home papercraft vignette

papercraft LEGO Pirates Monkey final build done!

As you can see, I've been working hard on my papercraft monkey! 🐵 (no, that's not a euphemism...)

As predicted, some of the parts were quite tricky, but I'm like with how it turned out. The edge-colouring turned out a bit dark (that's often the case when you use markers, because the ink soaks into the paper) so it would be better to use a lighter colour, or pencils/crayons.

I need a bit more time to make the instructions, and then I'll put it on my papercraft webpage for anybody that wants it. 😉

It was discovered on December 6, 1912 in Amarna among thousands of other artefacts, and the bust and image of Nefertiti has become an icon of beauty (her name actually means "the beautiful one has come"). Started building the final paper Monkey

After the test build of the head, I fixed a few things, and decided to go for it and start the final build! I always use the final build to take pictures for the instructions as well, so usually it takes me a bit longer than you normally would, but hopefully I can finish it soon. 🐵

In essence, papercraft is not a very difficult hobby and you don't really need any special tools. Normally, you will want to print the parts on some thicker paper and then you'll need glue and a sharp knife. Some people prefer scissors, but if you use a knife, I really recommend using a rubber cutting mat as well (it will protect your table top and your knife tip as well!) 

The colour markers are used for "edge colouring"; after cuttting out the parts, you can use a colour marker or pencil to colour the white edges of the paper, so that the paper model will look nicer without white lines all over it.

The toothpick and thin metal rod are really ancillary tools: they can be used for "pre-shaping" small, round parts (pre-shaping is always very important and in the case of the Monkey's head it will be vital!) and for reaching inside parts that are too small or too thin for your fingers to fit so that you can manipulate and apply pressure to the inside/backside of the parts and the glueing tabs to make sure there's a good glue bond.

Papercraft LEGO Monkey WIP 2

The monkey has a tail!

Well, so far my SketchUp LEGO monkey has a tail. As you can see, it's pretty simplified. To really get all the smooth curves in paper form exactly as they are on the real LEGO monkey, would require very different techniques and I like to stick with the (relatively... 😆) simple techniques of my other LEGO papercrafts.

Let's see in 2026 how accurate this papercraft Psyche asteroid is ;o)

If you thought the 800 meters 162173 Ryugu asteroid was big, think again! The 16 Psyche asteroid is over 200 kilometers!

An orbitor mission to Psyche is planned for 2022, arriving at the asteroid 4 years later in 2026 to study it. Maybe then we will see how accurate this paper model is? 🚀😉
