New papercraft Tomb Raider vignette start!

Remember when I did the classic Tomb Raider game model extraction tutorial, and I explained how from The Last Revelation onwards, you had two sets of meshes that you needed to merge together: Lara skin and Lara skin joints?

Well, they never match up perfectly in the animations captured with the TRViewer tool, resulting in lots of holes and gaps that need to be fixed before the 3D game model can be made into a physical papercraft.

To be honest though, it's not really much different from any other extracted Tomb Raider game model that you want to make into a paper model (they always have a lot of 'collisions' and 'floating' body parts to keep the game models simple and the games running smoothly for the time😉);

There are just even more of them... 😋

...oh, and that weird pose Lara seems to be in for the vignette? Well, maybe it will make more sense in the next WIP update. 😊

The Ainu are an indigenous people of the lands around the Sea of Okhotsk, including the northern largest island of Japan, Hokkaido. 🗾

The Upopoy-Magazine website has several papercrafts of things relating to their culture, like a guardian spirit Blakiston owl 🦉, crow 🐦, salmon 🐟, fox 🦊, sika deer 🦌 and whale 🐋 building blocks, a traditional Chise (Ainu house) 🏠, and an Ohoa food dish 🍲.

And what's more: there are also some papercrafts "greyed out" right now, so maybe those will become available in a little while? Be sure to check back on the Upopoy website every now and then!

Papercraft Doomguy WIP6; the final stretch

If you've been keeping up to date with the progress on my papercraft-2-be Doomguy, you'll know that the test build went very nicely (that of the Rocketlauncher as well 🙂)!

So I went ahead and with some minor edits I did the final unfold and started making the final templates. I wanted to make a Doomguy logo in the classic Doom style on the template (using tutvid's huge tutorial; or most of it anyway 😉).

It adds absolutely nothing to the actual papercraft of course, but it was fun and I think it actually turned out pretty nice!

But with the final templates done now (well, often I'll end up changing some of the parts numbers around, or switch a gluing flap or two in Pepakura, really just minor things). I can start finishing the papercraft now, though. Starting with making the final build for myself next. 🙂

Did you know thate there are actually several different standard types of historical windmills? "Den Olden Florus" for example is a 'standerdmolen', one of the oldest types of wooden windmills in the low countries!

free 2015 Puurveense Molen windmill

When foreigners think about the Netherlands, their minds undoubtedly wander to rows and rows of windmills (those are the ones we used to claim much of our land from the seas!). 

And while it's true, we do have a lot of historical windmills (more than a thousand actually, we even have a National Mill Day each year!), most of them nowadays are just solitary grain windmills (and many of them are still maintained and in operation by volunteers!)

So of course we have papercraft versions of some of them too! 😀

This "Puurveense Molen" one looks very historical, but it was actually built in 2015 to replace a mill that was lost to a fire many years before. It was however 'rebuilt' at a different location and in a very different style from the original one, using the carcass of a whole other windmill...
