New Kurt (not Russell) papercraft model

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated. I'm still here. ;o)

There weren't too many updates on my Cloud model the last two weeks, because I've been busy with everyday's stuff and well... test building Kurt.

I already did all the work on the 3D model over a year ago, before the "Great Computer Failure" of january 2008... So I was pretty happy I found it again. ;o)

In a year's time, one gets new ideas on how to make paper models, so I tweaked the 3D model a little more, but not much. I spent the first week secretly test building the head, body and legs, and last week I basically did one arm a night. ;o)

I'm very happy with how it turned out, it is a lot more balanced than it looks, and it's not insanely big (just 25 cm or so) and yet the parts themselves are of a good size to handle (except the four fangs, they're quite small).

The biggest drawback I guess, is that it has a whopping 155 parts: but what'd you expect with 6 arms with 11 parts each? ;o)

Cloud's Buster sword

Sorry for the serious lack of updates, but I haven't had the time to do anything really worth showing yet I think.

Basically all I had time for this week was cleaning up Cloud's Buster sword, and that was only because it only really needed a minimum amount of cleaning anway. ;o)

All I did was make a new, stronger (I hope ;o) connection between the grip and the guard, and I was thinking about making the two holes at the base just part of the texture, but maybe the parts will turn out big enough to make them real holes (but I'll test build that and decided then, it'd be easy enough to change).

Stay tuned for more (interesting) updates! ;o)

For a long time, there weren't too many websites about papercraft (especially not about video game models - hard to imagine now, isn't it? ;o) but papercraft blogs are spawning all over the web now!

Here's a brand new one: Paperzelda! Like Paperpokés, they're a team of fans that like to create their own papercraft models, but as the name implies, this time they're focusing on models from the Legend of Zelda.

There are already a few there, just waiting for you to come by and download them!

Cloud's shoes

I didn't do a lot of work yet (just the shoes) but hey, you gotta start somewhere. ;o)

Next will be the pants, which look great with all the wrinkles and stuff, but they would require a lot of small parts and awkward folding. So I want to see if I can come up with some good looking legs that will be a lot easier to build. It will probably mean some texture editing as well.

The upper legs look better, but also need some work so that they'll require less cutting and folding later on.

Stay tuned!

It Will Be Cloud

Final Fantasy VII's hero, Kingdom Hearts style. Cloud Strife will be my next big project.

When I'm making a more complex model like this one though, I usually do one or two smaller models on the side when I feel I need a break from "the big one", so...

...stay tuned! ;o)

Papercraft Ganondorf release

I had so much fun building building it that I just couldn't stop, so I managed to complete it this week still.

In the end it took me a lot longer to make than I anticipated at first, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. So here it is (in the Zelda section of course ;o)

Ganondorf final build wip

During my test build, I noticed that I accidently printed Ganondorf's head at a larger scale than the rest of him. The difference in scale was not very big, but I thought I'd show you how it looks when printed correctly. ;o)

I spy with my little eye... Ganondorf's eyes

I have been showing my work in progress pictures around, and several people have told me they thought Ganondorf's eyes were too large (anime-style big).

Although I don't really feel it's a crime to make changes to the game model when making a paper model to make it look the way *you* want to (quite the opposite) I did decide to make the eyes smaller again.
What else did I do? Well, I started making the templates. When those are finished, I can begin making the final build to take pictures for the instructions, which I hope to start next weekend (time flies...)

Ganondorf test build finished

I'm quite happy with how the model comes together; although I do have an edge of course because I made it myself, this one won't be beyond the average papercrafter's ability.

Especially not since I decided I'll keep it quite humongous: it's about 30 cm tall now and I'm not going to make it a whole lot smaller.

The robe turned out looking better than I thought actually. But from the start I wanted to make it optional, so I'll make a seperate PDF for it so you don't accidentally "print all pages" if you don't want to build it.

So now I can work on the the templates, then the final build for myself and for making the instructions, and then hopefully in one or two weeks, I can finally release it.

Stay tuned!

Ganondorf test build (*with* head this time)

As you can see, Ganondorf is turning out quite the giant compared to Oni Link.

But Oni Link *is* crouching a little, and well, Ganondorf really *is* enormous, even when compared to adult Link (which I'm assuming is about the same size as Oni Link ;o)

So I still haven't really made up mind wether or not I will leave him as he is, or whether I will scale him down *just a bit*.

Fortunately, I still have some time to think about it while I test build his robe and his sword (that one's not his ;o)

Ganondorf test build, part deux

I know Ganondorf is a big dude, but I still think he's a little bit *too* big right now... ;o)

Other than that, the test build is going great! His one leg is green because I usually use an even, green texture in Pepakura so it's easier for me to see what I'm doing. But because I wanted to see what the texture was going to end up like, I printed the rest with the real texture.

On the final version, his leg is not going to be green of course. ;o)

CardBoy 2009 Year of the Ox

Those of you that haven't heard of CardBoy before: it's a desktop calendar YOU can build. Available in both a Beef and a Veggie version, be sure to save the PDFs to your hard disk so you can build July-December later this year! ;o)

Have fun building!

Ganondorf test build 1

Yay, my main website ( seems to be working properly again! (it wasn't yesterday... :o(

So that's good news.

Other good news is that I finally started the test build on Ganondorf. It's coming together great, although it's a bit big and I think in the final version I will scale it down a bit. But that's not a big problem and won't really effect the difficulty.

Stay tuned!

Black Hole & Yellow Comet Stealth Fighters

Sorry to keep you guys waiting:

The site seems a bit slow today, I'm not sure what's up with that. Maybe my ISP is suffering from the Y2009 bug. Just try reloading and/or emptying your cache, it's still there. ;o)

Have fun building!
