Zelda merchandise & fan art book

A fan (yay, I have a fan! ;o) sent me these pictures she found somewhere online.

From what I understand, it's an unofficial (non-Nintendo) book about everything related to The Legend of Zelda, with info about the games, official artwork, merchandise and fan art, covering the years 1986-2007.

And look at what's in this picture:

It's Chokipeta's papercraft Four Swords Link, and some of mine too! ;o)

I don't know if there are any more paper models in the book (the person who sent me the pictures doesn't have the book either) but I guess it's an 'old' book (from somewhere around 2007/2008 I think ;o) already: nowadays, you could fill 10 books with Legend of Zelda related paper models alone!

LEGO M:Tron minifig airtanks WIP

Back to working on the papercraft M:Tron LEGO minifigure!

The airtanks are basically just two simple cylinders with dome tops with a bridge and a neck bracket, but connecting those curves together in a papercraft model can be pretty difficult...

LEGO M:Tron minifig helmet re-re-re-done

As you can seen, I've been busy re-re-re-doing the helmet.

At first glance, they look pretty much the same, and they pretty much are. ;o) But every time I built it and I saw the final overall shape and proportions, it just looked a *little* bit off...

So I kept tweaking it until it looked *just* right.

But now I'm finally happy with it so now I can finally start working on the airtanks!

papercraft LEGO Pirate review

Chris24jc not only built my papercraft LEGO Pirate Captain Redbeard minifig model, he also made a comprehensive video review about it!

It's almost 10 minutes long, and he has some good tips! ;o)

LEGO M:Tron minifig helmet test build

As you can see, I unfolded and test built the first version of the helmet and visor.

By actually building the pieces, it's much easier to find out which parts will be difficult to build or just don't look right than when staring at a computer screen. ;o)

I'm happy to say that the visor works perfectly!

It snaps into place just like the real thing, and you can move it beautifully just like the real LEGO helmet visor too! And when it'll be made out of transparancies, I think it will look great! ;o)

There are some things I want to change on the helmet itself to improve the shape, and then I will get started on the airtanks!

What kind of papercraft models do you like?

Paper models of... aircraft/helicopters real animals anime/cartoons boats buildings/architecture cars/vehicles collectable/urban papertoys science-fiction real space rockets and ships military/tanks trains/trams video games 1:1 scale props (weapons etc.) other/... Current Results

Personally, I have a lot of different interests, so I like all kinds of paper models (which is probably why my to do-list is so long... ;o)

The results of last time's papercraft webpoll (did you ever start a papercraft model that you ended up finding too difficult to make?) might surprise a lot of people, I think:
More than three quarters (7,6 out of 10 people) have at least once started a paper model they like, but found too difficult too finish!

That's *a lot*!

Most of them, though (5,6 out of 10 people in total) kept the parts to try again later, maybe when they have more time, or they want to get a little more experience first.

I think still a lot of people are often surprised at themselves when they find out how dedicated and focused they can really be when they sit down and concentrate on building a paper model of their favourite hero.

And even if you don't succeed at first, or if it takes too long right now, you can always keep the parts in a safe place to pick it up again later, or you can print out the parts anew if you found the model online.

I hope the people that didn't save the parts, didn't give up on papercraft completely, though!

There are a lot of paper models out there, so there are sure to be a lot that you *will* find fun to build too! ;o)

LEGO M:Tron minifig helmet WIP3

The visor wasn't a very difficult part.

It will be fun to make it out of transparant sheets: I'll give it a very light, bright green texture on the templates, but I don't think the printed version will have the neon-green glow of the real LEGO piece.

But if you can find some shiny, neon green transparancies, you can always simply trace the parts onto those and use that instead. ;o)

LEGO M:Tron minifig helmet WIP2

At first, it may look difficult to cut the shape for the (re)movable visor from a curved surface like the helmet.

But with some guidelines it's really not that hard: if you simply trace and project the shape from the scan through the helmet, and add an extra intersecting surface, the shape starts to appear almost automatically already.

Then all you need to do is remove the excess parts and smooth things out a bit. ;o)

LEGO M:Tron minifig helmet v1

As you can see, I started work on the helmet. I'm temporarily using Captain Redbeard's shoulder piece as a spacer between the torso and the head, to make sure the bottom of the helmet will have the right clearance for the airtanks.

I'm not sure I'm completely happy with the helmet yet, though; especially the backside doesn't really have the right shape yet I think...

I also haven't made the inside part where the head stud slots in yet, or the connections for the (re)movable visor, so the helmet is not quite done yet!

New papercraft "side-project": Advance Wars Megatank

I like to make my papercraft Advance Wars units as "side projects" because they're made by hand, so I don't have to be staring at a computer screen all the time. ;o)

This time, I'm making the "freakin' huge" (in Grimm's words) Megatanks from Advance Wars: Dual Strike!

They're slow and gas-guzzling monsters, but when they do get there eventually, the enemy would do well to be somewhere else.

New papercraft project: LEGO M:Tron minifig!

Here it is, the new papercraft project I'll be working on!

It's a LEGO minifig again so for some parts like the arms and legs, I'll only have to change the colours. ;o)

Some parts like the head and the torso require new textures, which I already made as you can see: if you have a lot of nineties LEGO, you'll recognize the LEGO Space M:Tron logo! ;o)

So there are only a few new parts that I'll need to make anew in SketchUp first, namely the space helmet (with (re)movable, transparant visor of course! ;o) and the airtanks.

I'll also start a new papercraft Advance Wars unit as a side project, but more on that later. ;o)
