free papercraft RMS Mauretania

Thanadol asked me to share his latest papercraft with you guys again: when the ocean liner RMS Mauretania was launched in 1906, it was the biggest ship in the world! Luckily, Thanadol made his papercraft version in a scale of 1/1000, so it will easily fit on your desk or shelf in your home. 😉

    1. Apparantly so! ;o) At a scale of 1/1000, it's not a very big ship of course so apparantly it easily fits on one sheet of paper. I didn't make this one myself so I can't be 100% sure there are no mistakes or anything of course, but as you can see Thanadol did a build himself (the picture is his) and all the parts seem to be there.

I think maybe it looks a bit strange because from what I can see, there are some things that are a little bit different than other papercrafts: on the front and back of the biggest part (for the hull) you have to cut a little further than you normally would think to do, following the cut lines *inside* into the outer shape of the overall part, to cut loose the strips that then bend sideways to make the front and back of the superstructure of the ship if you understand what I mean...? And the one, big part funnels for example needs to be cut loose into four separate ones.

It's difficult to explain in words I'm afraid, and without separate instructions you will have to go by the picture, but I hope if you examine the template, you will understand what I mean. :o)
